Happy Chinese New Year!

Just finished my Chinese New Year holidays. The first day of the new lunar year was Jan 29th. We had 3 days off this week, and during these days I was offline. Damn China Telecom!! So I haven't been able to download podcasts, updates my blogs or read e-mails. However Becky and I watched quite a few DVDs. Lots of movies and season four of 24. For my reviews go here. My in-laws were in Guilin for 3 days, but they got back on Monday. Last night we had a nice game of mah-jong. That's what it is like during Chinese New Year. The whole family reunites for a few days, playing games and fireworks. The more traditional chinese families (which includes the people in Taiwan) go to the husbands home to visit his parents, during new year's eve and new year's day. On the 2nd and 3rd of the year, they go to the wife's home, to visit her parents. Another tradition of Chinese New Year is the red envelope. Adults give envelopes to children and to the elder generation. The envelope simply contains money. How much money? Depends on your relationship with the receiving person. The fireworks last for several days, which shows that Chinese New Year is the most important holiday here.
